Through the eighteenth
and nineteenth
centuries ‘paper
stainers’ were
numerous in Ireland.
Some of their papers
are still to be found in
various states of repair
throughout the country.
With the extensive
restoration of period
buildings in recent
years fragments of
paper are regularly
exposed with the
removal of more recent
wall coverings.
Occasionally there is
enough of the original
artwork to reproduce
the wallpaper.
